Maritime Link Project
Emera is financing, constructing and will operate a new 500 megawatt (+/- 200 kilovolt) High Voltage direct current (HVdc) transmission line, as well as a 230 kilovolt High Voltage alternating current transmission line and associated infrastructure, between Granite Canal, Newfoundland and Labrador, and Woodbine, Nova Scotia. The project also includes two 170 km subsea cables across the Cabot Strait, and overland transmission lines in both provinces.
Construction of the Maritime Link will create a new connection from the island of Newfoundland to the North American power grid for the first time in history. This connection will help improve the reliability of NL’s electricity system and provide a channel to export surplus power not immediately needed in the province.
