July 3, 2020: Public Safety Notice – Transmission Line Maintenance Work in Labrador

To safely and effectively construct the transmission line from Muskrat Falls to Churchill Falls in Labrador and the Labrador-Island Link (LIL) from Muskrat Falls to Soldier’s Pond on the Avalon Peninsula, Nalcor upgraded and constructed access roads along the 1,600 km of transmission lines. We then developed a plan to identify roads that were essential for the safe and reliable operation and maintenance of the transmission lines.

Required road maintenance work will take place over the coming months and will be completed by C&T Enterprises for the Labrador portion and Major’s on the island.

Starting on July 6, C&T Enterprises will be back working on the LIL access roads in Labrador to complete required road maintenance work. This work does not include removing infrastructure, like bridges and culverts, except in a few locations around protected water supply areas. C&T will begin their work on access roads from the Muskrat Falls turn off to Cooks Road area. We anticipate crews will be working in this area for approximately two weeks.

It’s been a while since we’ve been working along the transmission lines so for the safety of you and our workers, we ask that you please read the full safety advisory here:
