First HVdc tower erected for Labrador-Island Transmission Link

April 15, 2015 – On April 12, 2015, the first High Voltage direct current (HVdc) tower was safely erected by Valard Construction for the Labrador-Island Transmission Link. The first tower is 41m tall (135 feet).

This is the first of approximately 3,300 towers that will be installed over the next three years along the 1,100 km transmission line which stretches from the Muskrat Falls site to Soldiers Pond.
